aspirations

i want this site to be a bit of a digital garden. i want to share about the many projects i pick up as well as about my interests in general. i hope through this little project i can inspire someone to try something new, too. i hope to always be either learning something new or honing a skill i've acquired. but for now, this little site is going to be quite the project in and of itself! so i wanted to jot down and share some of the ideas and aspirations i have for this little site. i can almost guarantee these goals will change and shift and grow as i figure out how i want this site to operate but for new here are some things i have planned.

  • blog / devlog-ing

    - my life is not very interesting but i enjoy talking about the projects i have inflight. some of my favorite stuff to read about and watch on youtube is also just other people working on their personal projects. i think it's so inspiring and sometimes helpful to see the amount of work that goes into so many of these projects.
  • book and media recommendations around climate awareness and sustainability

    - i feel like oftentimes it can be pretty overwhelming to think about this topic. it makes me feel so small and powerless. but a few years ago i made the change to just start interacting with the natural world more often and make it a larger precense in my life. this took so many forms - i try to be more mindful on my walks with my dog, i do more birdwatching, but i also read and watch more media around climate change. and the good news is not all of it is terrifying! there are a lot of really wonderful pieces of media out there that are inspiring and hopeful - exactly what we need at a time like this. so i've been spending a lot of time with this topic and would love to share some guidance and suggestions in this area.
  • side projects/quests

    - this goes pretty hand in hand with the blog/devlog goal and aspiration but i often find myself wanting to work on random sidequests and talk about how it's going but don't have a great place to do that. for example i'm working through completing the "build your own git" project in codecrafters and would love to share my thoughts on how it's going as well as just some general things i've learned in the process.
  • spanish resources

    - i've been improving my spanish for the past few years and while there are millions of resources available on the internet i have been on a journey of finding resources that are a little off the beaten path. currently i am exploring the wonderful world of video games and figuring out what games are great resources for spanish immersion.
  • journaling and self reflection

    - i've learned a lot about myself and what it means to be a person. as i've gotten older i've slowly figured out how the world works and really settled in on how i want the world to work. i've become extremely disillusioned with our current ways of doing things but also have seen so many examples of how people rise to the occasion when it's needed most. so i am hopeful and optimistic about the future while being horrifically aware of our current state of affairs. i'm not a big journaler but sometimes i need to just get my thoughts gathered and out there so part of this is wanting to do that more often.
  • make a sick website

    - and of course all of this is centered around making a super sick site. i want this to feel a bit like a maze or a secret garden so while we are in a fairly straightforward state right now with what this site looks like i want to make something so exciting to explore and uncover by the end of this. i'm very inspired by old early 2000's websites that used to look like their rough draft was made in word. i'm a fan of pixelated works and just retro tech in general so i want to bring those influences in. i am a software engineer but not this kind! so i'm also excited to learn something new and make it my own. with that in mind i plan on following the odin project as a resource for learning more about web development. and self-referentially enough i want to update this site with how it's going in a series of devlogs/blogs.

every day a new idea pops into my head about what i want to do with this space and it's equally exhilarting and daunting. but if there's one thing i know about myself it's that i'm very good at starting a million different projects and eventually slowly chipping away at them. wish me luck and i'll see you next time.
